Samantha Madison, a St. Louis native and local freelance performance artist, received her training from the visual performing arts schools in St. Louis as well as COCA (Center of Creative Arts), where she was part of their Pre-Professional Program. Samantha attended Webster University and studied dance with an emphasis in ballet through the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts.
Samantha has since performed in productions for The Black Rep, InnerVision Dance Theater, Because Why Not? Theater, Fly North Music, Gitana Productions, Kode Redd, and the MUNY, as well as for local music artists Mai Lee and Soulo. She is currently a member of the Amara Arts Project and a founding member of Seventh Floor Dance Theater. She is also a part of Theater of War’s productions ANTIGONE in Ferguson, The Drum Major Instinct with the Phil Woodmore Singers, and has been able to tour in the U.S. and Greece.
In addition to her performance career, Samantha has been working for Better Family Life since 2012 and has used her gifts and expertise at the local non-profit organization as a performance coordinator, rehearsal coach, and assistant choreographer for KYPE (Kuumba Youth Performance Ensemble). She is also a performing arts instructor for 21st Century Afterschool in Normandy School District and for Youth Passport to the Future licensed afterschool program. Samantha is a teen pregnancy prevention educator and works primarily in St. Louis Public School District high schools. Her teaching background also includes years as a dance instructor at local competition studio New Era Productions where she taught ballet, jazz, and tap. She has conducted workshops in ballet locally and regionally with her most recent being at the University of Indiana in Evansville as a guest artist. Also, Samantha has worked with St. Alphonsus’ LLIM dance ministry as a guest choreographer.
Samantha is currently working on her first choreographic concert work LOVE…An Unfinished Work, an original work written and composed by Alerica Anderson, which she hopes will hit the stage soon. Samantha is also working towards Dunham certification as well as considering certification in yoga.
